Day 3 - Deal or No Deal

Today's Scripture is from Luke 12:33-34 - "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in Heaven that will never fail, where no thief come near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Today's Quote is from Charles Spurgeon: "The Bible is not the light of the world. It is the light of the Church. But the world does not read the Bible, the world reads Christians! 'You are the light of the world'."

Moni! (Hello in Nyanja) We started off our day bright and early with not one but two joyful worship services. Even with the obvious language barrier, we still felt the warmth and love for Christ within the whole congregation. Whether it was the dancing, singing, or enthusiastic chants you couldn't help but feel like you belong. Sitting with the kids brought its own uplifting moments, from their spirited dancing and laughing at our obvious lack of rhythm. After the active part of the service came the inspiring message from a local pastor, where he discussed the importance of Christ cleansing our sins. Through the use of a metaphor we dove deeper into 1 Kings 18:1-39 where he explained the great power of God in the presence of our daily lives. He compared washing a shirt with muddy hands to our inability to cleanse ourselves since that can only be done through the power of God. Despite this wonderful and moving message we all got a laugh when the ushers had to come and wake up some of the kids who were still recovering from the dancing.

After church we went to lunch at 3 trees where we had the most exquisite spicy chicken tenders. Continuing on the day, we got to experience an authentic African marketplace. We were in for a lot of surprises with expert salespeople, constant negotiation, and probably some inflated prices we all came home with the goods. Some got figures; some got chessboards; some got ripped off; and others got all of the above. Overall, it was a great learning experience and we all had a great time.

When we returned from market, we learned more about Zambian culture from the interim director of Tree of Life, Jim Evans. Our team wrapped up the evening up with an eventful dinner and learning more details about each other. Jack and Andee took the cake for the best picture of the day.
