You're Hired!

Post written by: Philip Brink & Sophie Strickler

Verse of the day: "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Quote of the day: "I am not designed to carry the burden of men. Rather, I am designed to carry the love of God so that I might soothe the burden of men." - Craig Lounsbrough

We started off the day greeted by a crowd of well dressed students eager to interview. Despite the late arrival by many employers, the students hopes were high and so were ours. Our students showed their confidence early in the day through singing and worshiping the Lord. At the end of worship the first wave of employers were ready to begin the interviewing process. This is when things started to get busy.

Our team despite having assigned roles were pulled in every direction whether it was correcting/writing resumes, doing practice interviews with students, or helping students to find their interviewer.

Each interview was a bit different. Some were more personal one-on-one and others were organized into group settings. Even though the interviews were unique we are grateful to every employer for showing up today, these include: BKS (Investment Group), Legacy Lodge, Gold West Coast Pharmaceuticals, Lili Ominato, East Park New Restaurants, and Suscon. Each student came in worried, but ended the day with a smile.

After an eventful morning, we finally got to relax with a traditional Zambian lunch. This was our last day to eat lunch and connect with our new friends. Interviews continued well into the afternoon, but that didn't stop the celebration. Everyone was enthusiastic and energetic, so we decided to dance.

Our group leaders taught the students how to do various American style dances and in return learned traditional Zambian moves. As a reward, we all got delicious gelato in multiple flavors. Of course we had to take some photos to remember our adventures and the wonderful time we have had teaching. Some students left with a job offer, some with a scheduled follow up, and others with valuable interview experience. The team is sad to say goodbye, but we know that our students have a bright and successful future ahead of them. Zambia KuChalo!
